Precision Machined Components

During my internship at PHOENIX INDUSTRIES(M and K Building Systems is the Parent Company) , I gained practical experience and insights into the manufacturing processes of precision machine components, shell and tube type heat exchangers, lubrication grease fittings, and other products. The internship provided me with hands-on experience with various machines and their functions, as well as an understanding of the layout and workflow
within an industrial manufacturing setting.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand the Function and Operation of Manufacturing Machines:
- CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines
- VMC (Vertical Machining Center)
- BANDSAW
- Pressure leakage testing machine
- Grinding machine

2. Trace the Processing and Manufacturing of a Specific Component:
- Component: '1 1/2 Body SS316'
- Understand the journey from raw material to the final product

3. Measure and Draft the Plant Layout:

- Create a scaled layout of the three plants
- Locate and identify machines and sections within each plant
- Draft the layout using AutoCAD

4. Create a 3D Model of the Factory Layout:
- Utilize SketchUp to create a comprehensive 3D model of the factory and its processes

Key Tasks and Activities:

Task 1: Tracing the Manufacturing Process of '1 1/2 Body SS316'

- Objective: Understand the detailed manufacturing process of a specific component
- Process Overview:
1. Raw Material Acquisition: Identified the type and specifications of the raw material used for '1 1/2 Body SS316'.
2. Initial Cutting: Observed the use of the BANDSAW for cutting the raw material into manageable pieces.
3. CNC Machining: Studied the CNC machine's role in shaping the component with precision.
4. Grinding: Learned how the grinding machine smoothens and refines the component's surface.
5. Pressure Leakage Testing: Understood the importance of testing for leaks to ensure the component's integrity.
6. Final Inspection: Observed the quality control measures in place to verify the final product's specifications.

Task 2: Measuring and Drafting the Plant Layout

- Objective: Create an accurate and scaled layout of the three plants
- Activities:
1. Measurement: Conducted detailed measurements of the plant dimensions and the positioning of machines and sections within each plant.
2. Drafting in AutoCAD: Utilized AutoCAD to draft a scaled layout, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
3. Analysis: Analyzed the layout to understand the workflow and the spatial arrangement of machinery and sections.
